Shunawo Li

Shunawo Li was a magician, politician, and dragovinian. Prior to the reign of Jevaninada II she was a close confidant of Queen Anajakaze. Shunawo’s relationship with the Queen gained her a position as the Lady of Colchis. Under her original maiden name of Lady Ka she cultivated a gynocracy within Colchis. Shunawo left the gynocracy and her maiden name when she was turned into a dragovinian by Wu Lang Li. She used her sorcerous powers and political will to slither her way into Greshendale and make the city into a dragovinian enclave. Lady Li fought to defend her fledgling convert community but died after the city was destroyed by Hermes and the Alliance Exiles.

Shunawo Ka was born to an Amazon mother and a Xorian father. She was given a Xorian name but was raised as an Amazon. When she came of age she chose to be a magician. Rather than choosing one of the magic schools as her focus or a particular element, Shunawo elected to practice the art of gathering and using raw magical energy known as force magic.

Shunawo would’ve been a talented but unremarkable mage if it wasn’t for her relationship with Queen Anajakaze. When Anajakaze emerged from King’s Copse to rejoin the civilized world Shunawo was one of the first Amazons to greet her. Recognizing her as someone who could be the future Queen of the Amazons, Shunawo pledged her allegiance to the young warrior before the tournament of arms had even begun. Anajakaze gained a useful client with a keen political mind. As Shunawo served Anajakaze during her rise to power she was eventually gifted the ladyship of Colchis after the First Alliance War.

Lady Ka embraced her new role. She brought the Amazon gynocracy to Colchis, a city long entrenched in the immortal patriarchy of King Aeëtes. As Lady Ka reprogramed the culture of the city she also studied the ancient magical writings of Aeëtes and Medea. Through this study her force magic grew stronger than even Bigby, the Hero of the Dragon War.

Like many others, Lady Ka’s life changed when Jevaninada II came to the throne as a dragovinian. The new king turned his friend, Wu Lang Li, into the first dragovinian. His first mission to the new convert was to turn Lady Ka into a dragovinian as well. The promise of power that came with the transformation proved successful in convincing Shunawo. Wu bit her and she joined the dragovinian cause. Wu and Shunawo shared a special connection from the turning experience. They were married soon afterward, the first couple joined under the new religion of Dragoviniysm.

With the new name of Lady Li, Shunawo was now bound to follow the orders of King Jevaninada II. She built the Dragoviniysm cult in Colchis and dismantled the feminist society she’d worked so hard to build. In the new meritocracy of immortality Lady Li was fortunately able to ensure that women were given a fair chance to prove their worth. Through this process Wu was a useful partner, ruling alongside Lady Li.

Lady Li’s end came when she went to Greshendale to convert the city. She successfully argued for dragovinians being allowed into Greshendale and for them to turn other willing citizens. With the tempting power of immortality, many mages took the deal. Greshendale was on its way to becoming a Xorian city when the Alliance Exiles intervened. First they tried to disrupt the city with the theft and destruction of the Red Orb of Dragonkind. Afterwards with the help of Hermes they crashed the floating city into the ground. Lady Li fought to defend the magic city in both cases. In the resulting spell battle after the destruction of Greshendale she was turned to ash by Amalius Halkias.

84 – Horseback Riding D&D Camp (Michael and SaddleSnaps) Setting the Stage, Campaigns for D&D and Other RPGs

Michael tells us about a D&D horseback riding experience at SaddleSnaps! The Chicago-based stable hosted a weekend camping, horseback riding, and D&D event. About 50 players came from across the country for this new experience. During the event, the players were split up into three groups. Each of the groups engaged in the "Exploration" and "Social Interaction" pillars of RPGs as a LARP. They used horses to go out on rides around the area to find clues to a developing mystery. After returning to their base camp they'd set up around tables for the D&D "Combat" pillar. Michael was the main DM of the adventure along with lots of support DMs and NPC actors helping him out.SaddleSnaps is planning to do more rides like this in the future, both single day rides as well as full weekend campouts like this first one. There are evening rides every Thursday for the rest of July 2026 with more to come in future months. You can check out everything about SaddleSnaps on their website.Michael has his own website for his RPG resources called Paragon Provisions that you can check out as well.Michael also runs his own Discord server that you connect with him on if you'd like to keep up with all the cool D&D stuff he's doing.Check out the Setting the Stage website!Want to be on the show?
