Chapter 5 – Into Danger (Continued)

Tereman stepped forwards. “I’ll take you on.”

The adlishar adopted a combat pose. It held its sword directly in front with the blade parallel to the ground. It’s left arm was bent at the elbow with the hand high above its head. The creature smiled as it waited for Tereman to make the first move.

Tereman walked into the semi-circle defined by the six other adlishars. He circled the leader in the middle of the circle. The leader turned, keeping Tereman in front of it.

Tereman spoke, “Hear me, O Zeus. If I have ever fought in your name, lend strength to my arm. For Zeus!”

Tereman lunged forward. He brought his sword down in an overhead arc to strike the adlishar’s defensively postured silver sword. Tereman’s blade never struck its target. The adlishar’s left hand was on its forehead.

Tereman’s hands began to glow. Galandir watched Tereman sweep his left hand over his arms to free them, then the rest of his body. Tereman was no longer paralyzed!

The adlishar smiled. It lifted the left hand off its forehead, then brought it straight back down. Tereman was paralyzed again.

The adlishar strolled forward. Tereman’s hands began to glow again. The left arm was freed.

The adlishar held the edge of its silver sword at Tereman’s throat. “A simple trick, but too slow to be useful in a real battle. Surrender.”

Tereman dropped his left hand to his side. The only movement he was capable of making to indicate his surrender. The leader released his left hand from his forehead. Tereman let out a breath he’d held in. He looked at the adlishar with narrowed eyes before turning briskly on his heel in the dirt to walk over to where Blendegad lay on the ground.

“One more to go,” the adlishar said.

Galandir stepped forwards. His grip tightened on the two blades in his hands.

“You have stolen one of the swords of our people,” the adlishar stated. “Return it or suffer.”

Galandir pointed the silver sword at the adlishar. He said, “You stole the people of Shalerton from their homes. Ripped them from their beds and their lives. Return them first!”

The adlishar let out a barking laugh. “Ha! A fair proposal if we were equals. I will honor it.” The adlishar turned to the subordinates that held the woman with the emerald necklace. The one holding her with the left hand to forehead paralysis released her. The other pushed her towards Galandir, Blendegad, and Tereman. She stumbled across the grass, having difficulty walking after being unable to move for several minutes.

She reached Tereman and Blendegad. Tereman’s hands were glowing. He ran his hands over Blendegad. As the emerald necklaced warrior arrived he ran his glowing hands over her as well. She seemed to feel better after he did so.

Galandir sheathed his own sword. He turned the silver sword in his hands to hold the dull edge. Liquid metal ebbed and flowed along the sword but remains silver solid in the areas he touched. The leading adlishar stepped forwards with its own blade pointed downwards. It grabbed the silver sword that Galandir had taken by the hilt.

Small word count today. We were celebrating a few birthdays this weekend. I had those to do and I’m also behind on sleep and can’t stay up late to catch up. I’ll have to get more done tomorrow to get caught up.

83 – Call of Cthulhu's Garden (Hem and The Sprouting) Setting the Stage, Campaigns for D&D and Other RPGs

Hem tells us about their actual play campaign, The Sprouting. Within the world of The Sprouting, Earth's history diverged during the 1800s when an eldritch horror was summoned into our reality. The horror lay in wait for centuries, building up a secret army of plant monsters. In 2020, the plant monsters struck, ruining infrastructure and attacking population centers across the world. One hundred years have passed and our heroes learn that the next stage of the plant apocalypse has begun…We also discussed some of the difficulties and pleasures of actual play podcasts and how the RPG community varies internationally (Hem is in Iceland). If you want to try listening to The Sprouting its available on all major podcast platforms. You can learn more on The Sprouting's website. For other shows produced by Hem check out Blighthouse Studio's website.Hem mentioned The Lucky Die actual play show of theirs several times which used D&D 5e.And the broader network of Fable and Folly has their website too.Check out the Setting the Stage website!Want to be on the show?
