Talon is a member of a dwindling race of insectoid people known as dromites. The dromites lived in Cimmeria even before the goblins did, but have long been on the decline. They live mostly in the Underdark now. Talon was a particularly gifted person within his tribe, possessing skill in psionic and arcane magic. He learned as much as he could within his home, but the thirst for knowledge drove him out into the wider world.

Talon’s quest for magical power eventually led him to Greshendale, the magical floating city. He made a new home for himself there and gained a reputation as a problem solver and peace keeper. This reputation eventually earned him a position as the city’s administrative leader, the Cerebramancer.

Talon’s greatest challenge as a leader came with the Second Alliance War. He favored the Alliance, but many others within the city wished to join the Xorians to gain dragovinian immortality. Talon couldn’t abide such evil, but he didn’t have the political power to force the people of Greshendale to join the Alliance. He toed the middle line and secured a neutral position for the city.

Talon always planned to upset this neutrality if it meant Greshendale joined the Alliance. He saw his chance with his psion friend, Amalius. They plotted a heist of the Red Dragon Orb which could then be used to oust the dragovinians who were all descended from red dragons. Unfortunately Amalius’s passion overrode his sense and he broke the Orb to reunite the dragon lovers, Invernix and Sartoria. This destabilized Greshendale physically and politically and Talon took the blame. He fled into the underworks of the city to start a guerilla resistance movement against the dragovinians.

After Greshendale was destroyed Talon emerged as a leader of the city once again. He kept the people together around the remains of the floating city to salvage and safeguard the enormous quantities of magical items and power sources contained within. He continued this role after the Second Alliance War concluded. He volunteered to construct a new place to contain the power of the artifacts in Greshendale and the Museum of Power in Nox which had also been destroyed. With the financial backing of King Mero III, Talon, along with Hektor, constructed this facility in Mars’ Oasis.

Danar traveled Cimmeria for a few months to learn and improve the style he taught at his new school in Mo’nyoq. He became friends with Talon of Greshendale and invited the dromite to teach at his new dojo. Talon accepted. He personally tutored Danar’s descendant, Lys’andra.

I’m Isaac

Welcome to the GoCorral website! I’m Isaac Shaker and this is a place for me to write about D&D and occasionally other topics. I host a podcast called Setting the Stage that interviews different DMs about their campaigns. I’m currently focused on completing the Cimmeria campaign setting and turning it into a book.

Setting the Stage Podcast

71 – Aaron Ryan and Dissonance/The End Setting the Stage, Campaigns for D&D and Other RPGs

I talked with Aaron Ryan about two of his book series, Dissonance and The End.Dissonance is a near future world where aliens have attacked, killing most humans and animals on Earth and driving humans into hiding underground. Humans finally develop technology to fight back and the war enters a new stage while the characters also struggle to determine the motivation for the alien invasion and nefarious actions of the government. The End is a Christian End Time series based loosely on the events described in Revelations. A man calling himself Nero has risen to rule over the world and he has outlawed Christianity. Robots called Guardians hunt Christians throughout the world, murdering them on the spot if they don't recant their faith. A resistance movement works in the shadows against Nero, but things aren't looking good for them.We talked about the basics of those settings along with how they could be adapted for RPG campaign settings. My main recommendations were Ashes Without Number, Spire, and Blades in the Dark.If you're interested in reading Aaron's books you can find them at most any bookstore or library. Both of the series are also being adapted into movies, but aren't publicly available yet. Aaron's website is https://authoraaronryan.com/ for the latest updates on his work. Next up for Aaron is the Talisman series that covers events within the "Aaronverse" in the decades between Dissonance and The End.Our website: https://gocorral.com/stsWant to be on the show?
