Terroc was a prolific adventurer wizard in Eastern Cimmeria. He made his fortune and retired with a family in Crafterton. He came out of retirement to assist the dragovinians when they offered him a chance at true divine power. He used his connections to secure a position in the Alliance Council while feeding information to the Xorians. After acting as a passive spy he betrayed the Council to steal Kharad-Khor and became a dragovinian. Unfortunately he didn’t live long after that. Amalius killed Terroc in a confrontation during the Second Alliance War.

Terroc was raised in Aractrash. His mother died in childbirth and his father was a magician specializing in summoning magic. Terroc became an apprentice to his father. In search of more forbidden knowledge, Terroc’s father incurred debts to a gang of criminals. When it came time to repay those debts he could not. The gang took their pound of flesh and made Terroc an orphan.

The family business proved useful to Terroc when he sought vengeance. He dived into the magic previously forbidden to him by his father. Terroc uncovered a buried scroll and set loose a babau demon. Terroc commanded the demon to kill goes father’s murderers. The babau gladly did so, but also inscribed Terroc’s name on the walls in the victims’ blood. The young mage was forced to flee town before the police apprehended him.

After perfecting his magical skill in a new apprenticeship Terroc became a wandering adventurer in Northeastern Cimmeria. He took jobs in Shalemstead, Balin’s Holt, Dalleer, Bradel Fields, and Harbinston. Most notably he performed a service for Hephaestus by returning the Chains of Inferno that were stolen by one of the smith god’s cyclops apprentices. Terroc was successful, but never made enough to retire from the adventuring life until he found Burne’s treasure map.

The discovery of Burne’s treasure map led Terroc to a fabulous treasure. At the end of the map was a deck of many things. Terroc recognized the cards but he didn’t draw from it himself. Instead he went to the slave market and bought four slaves a day. He ordered then to draw four cards each. Many died and some were rewarded with skills or connections that led them to good lives. Terroc’s only condition was that any wealth the slaves drew was given over to him. Through this cruel abuse of slaves, Terroc amassed a large fortune.

Terroc’s sudden wealth did not go unnoticed. A weretiger assassin noticed Terroc’s pattern of buying slaves and posed as a slave to discover what the wizard was doing. After seeing the deck being used on the other slaves the assassin stole the magic item and fled. Terroc tracked him down, but the deck of many things was already sold and long gone.

With his vast wealth, Terroc entered semi-retirement as a member of the Wayfarer’s Union of teleportation mages in Crafterton. He married a beautiful nymph enchanted to love him and lived in a large house in town with her and their children. Terroc dabbled in magical experimentation but for the most part he was content to live in luxury and indolence.

When the Xorians conquered Crafterton it made no difference to Terroc. When the dragovinians came a few decades later he was offered dragovinian status, but he declined. Terroc found the physical transformation ugly and didn’t wish to change for his family. The dragovinians came with a second offer when the Second Alliance War started. Terroc had adventured with the founders of the First Alliance and these connections could get him access to valuable information for the Xorian war effort. In return for spying, the dragovinians offered something Terroc could not refuse, a place in the new pantheon they were building as the god of magic. This enticing package convinced Terroc. He left Crafterton and joined the Second Alliance as a magical advisor to War Council meetings.

Terroc fed info to the Xorians while working with the Second Alliance. He and Amalius were unaware that the other was a spy, allowing their reports to corroborate each other. Terroc had the same orders, to sabotage the Alliance if he got the chance. That opportunity came when they recovered Kharad-Khor, the sword containing the spirit of Kruk-Ma-Kali. Terroc attacked the other members of the Alliance who helped him claim the sword and then stole it. He returned to Xoria with the weapon and became a dragovinian in preparation for his ascension when the Alliance was defeated.

As the prospective god of magic, Terroc inserted himself into the magical society of Cimmeria. Most important was the city of Greshendale and all its wizards and sorcerers. Winning them over to the dragovinian pantheon was vital for the war effort and the dragovinian elite’s long-term goals of apotheosis. He met with colleagues and held symposiums to convince the citizens of Greshendale that becoming dragovinian would be beneficial for all.

This interference with a neutral party in the Second Alliance War attracted the attention of the Alliance. Terroc warded off the Alliance’s influence, but couldn’t counteract the sabotage of Hermes. Hermes tricked the Alliance members into pulling Greshendale out of the sky. The city could no longer aid the Xorians, but it became a smoldering ruin in the Greshen Valley. Terroc fought to defend the city’s remains but was slain by Amalius. His children and wife survived him.

84 – Horseback Riding D&D Camp (Michael and SaddleSnaps) Setting the Stage, Campaigns for D&D and Other RPGs

Michael tells us about a D&D horseback riding experience at SaddleSnaps! The Chicago-based stable hosted a weekend camping, horseback riding, and D&D event. About 50 players came from across the country for this new experience. During the event, the players were split up into three groups. Each of the groups engaged in the "Exploration" and "Social Interaction" pillars of RPGs as a LARP. They used horses to go out on rides around the area to find clues to a developing mystery. After returning to their base camp they'd set up around tables for the D&D "Combat" pillar. Michael was the main DM of the adventure along with lots of support DMs and NPC actors helping him out.SaddleSnaps is planning to do more rides like this in the future, both single day rides as well as full weekend campouts like this first one. There are evening rides every Thursday for the rest of July 2026 with more to come in future months.
