Want To Be a Guest on Setting the Stage?

So you’d like to be a guest on the Setting the Stage podcast? Maybe you have your own cool homebrew setting, an actual play RPG show, or a product coming out on Kickstarter soon. Whatever it is, here’s how coming on the Setting the Stage show works!

First, I need to know more about you and your campaign. To do that, I have a Google survey setup. It asks a few questions that help frame the interview for me so I can highlight the best parts of your campaign world. Any type of campaign world is appropriate! Fantasy, sci-fi, romance, action, anything!

Fill that survey out using this link: https://forms.gle/R9y6Y26Fr1DMSheH7

After you submit the survey, I look at it and contact you within a week. I prefer Discord text chat for communication but email works as well. We’ll discuss any questions/expectations you have for the interview. After we’ve got everything settled I’ll send you a scheduling link to pick a time for the interview. I’m typically available in the evenings on Tuesday-Thursday with additional availability during the day on Friday-Sunday.

At the start of the interview, I’ll go over the basics of the show. I edit the show to cut out breaks or long pauses. You’ll sound like the expert you are even if you need to look something up! The other thing to keep in mind for the show is explicit language. If I have to slap the explicit label on it, the episode won’t reach as many people. That’s ultimately a decision that’s up to you.

During the interview I’ll go through my basic questions about you and your world. Those include:
Who are you outside of RPGs?
How did you start playing RPGs?
How did you start GMing RPGs?
What inspired you to create your campaign world?
What is your world like physically?
What is the governmental structure of your world?
What are the gods and religion like in your world?
What are the races/species of your world like?
What are some unique cultures in your world?
There are many more questions I’ll ask that are more focused on the specifics of your world that I identify when reading your survey.

After the interview concludes, while we’re still on the Discord call we can chat for a few minutes about the experience. I’ll request an image of some kind to use as the thumbnail image for your episode. A world map or an iconic art piece for your campaign works best. If you’re interviewing about your actual play show, I typically use your show’s general thumbnail for my episode thumbnail. I’ll also ask for any internet links you’d like included in the show.

Once that’s finished, your episode gets tentatively placed in my release schedule. While I can sometimes do a 3 week turn-around on an episode, its typically going to be 2-4 months before your episode comes out.

When I near the end of editing your episode, I’ll let you know. Once it comes out, I’ll share it on social media and that’s about it!
