Alabaster is a massive human fighter, standing at approximately eleven feet tall due to enchantments he placed on himself. He serves in the Mars’ Oasis royal court as the leader of the Dythalidee and the personal bodyguard of King Mero III. He is an intimidating fighter such that he rarely demonstrates his skills as his reputation cows any would-be challengers to his might or the safety of the king.

Alabaster spent his younger years traveling the world. He was born in Cimmeria, but went outside of it exploring the other countries of the Earth. He passed through India, Egypt, and Persia. In Mesopotamia he ventured into the ruins of Sippar. There he found an ancient Sumerian text from before the Great Flood. He translated the text and discovered it was a manual on how to blend spellcasting with sword fighting. Alabaster studied the techniques. He mastered the fighting style and became a master of the once extinct school of Suel Arcanamach. The style allows him to quickly cast spells during combat and to lengthen the duration of spells cast on his own person, some even becoming permanent.

Alabaster returned to Cimmeria and walked across the length and breadth of the region, testing and refining his new skills. While hiking through the Shacklack Desert he came upon a human teenager in trouble. Prince Mero III of Mars’ Oasis had gotten separated from his bodyguard and a pack of land sharks was attacking. Alabaster leapt into action and slew the bulettes, rescuing the prince. Alabaster returned with Mero to Mars’ Oasis. While walking through the desert they formed a friendship that has lasted until this day. Upon reaching the city’s safety, Alabaster pledged his life to Prince Mero III and became his bodyguard.

Time passed and Prince Mero III became King Mero III of Mars’ Oasis. Alabaster grew alongside his charge, perfecting his skills in the magical and martial arts. After Mero III became king he promoted Alabaster to a new role, the commander of the Dythalidee. Alabaster was not a Dythalidee himself, having not gone through their initiation process. Nonetheless he was accepted by the members as their leader. With the Dythalidee under him, Alabaster is the most powerful man in Mars’ Oasis besides King Mero III himself.

After the Second Alliance War Alabaster took an active role in protecting the various dangerous artifacts and regenerating dragon primarch heads captured during the war. Others such as Hektor and Talon were in charge of the physical and magical security while Alabaster headed the active security provided by the Dythalidee. Along with this responsibility, Alabaster along with Hektor, Tagenadi, and King Mero III himself, slew Invernix and Sartoria. Their heads were added to the growing collection in Mars’ Oasis.

I’m Isaac

Welcome to the GoCorral website! I’m Isaac Shaker and this is a place for me to write about D&D and occasionally other topics. I host a podcast called Setting the Stage that interviews different DMs about their campaigns. I’m currently focused on completing the Cimmeria campaign setting and turning it into a book.

Setting the Stage Podcast

71 – Aaron Ryan and Dissonance/The End Setting the Stage, Campaigns for D&D and Other RPGs

I talked with Aaron Ryan about two of his book series, Dissonance and The End.Dissonance is a near future world where aliens have attacked, killing most humans and animals on Earth and driving humans into hiding underground. Humans finally develop technology to fight back and the war enters a new stage while the characters also struggle to determine the motivation for the alien invasion and nefarious actions of the government. The End is a Christian End Time series based loosely on the events described in Revelations. A man calling himself Nero has risen to rule over the world and he has outlawed Christianity. Robots called Guardians hunt Christians throughout the world, murdering them on the spot if they don't recant their faith. A resistance movement works in the shadows against Nero, but things aren't looking good for them.We talked about the basics of those settings along with how they could be adapted for RPG campaign settings. My main recommendations were Ashes Without Number, Spire, and Blades in the Dark.If you're interested in reading Aaron's books you can find them at most any bookstore or library. Both of the series are also being adapted into movies, but aren't publicly available yet. Aaron's website is https://authoraaronryan.com/ for the latest updates on his work. Next up for Aaron is the Talisman series that covers events within the "Aaronverse" in the decades between Dissonance and The End.Our website: https://gocorral.com/stsWant to be on the show?
