552BCE: As Gollard grew into an adult he took an interest in the gold mines of Yuettencal. He learned the mining process and worked alongside the miners to understand their needs and desires. Gollard also practiced his swordsmanship against the threats of the Underdark. When he came of age he was declared captain of the guard.

551BCE: The Underdark races attacking Yuettencal’s mines spoke Undercommon during their raids to coordinate. Gollard learned the language by studying books and speaking with enslaved captives. He used his fluency to comprehend the attackers shouted commands during their attacks. Gollard turned back many Drow, Svirfneblin, and Duergar attacks using this information.

549BCE: A fearful Drow woman, Medrika, surrendered to Gollard and asked for his help. She’d stolen a clutch of alchemically modified spiders from King Croshan of the Drow. If Gollard could protect her, she promised to give the spiders to him. The young man was smitten with Medrika’s beauty. He agreed to protect her. Gollard and his subordinates defeated the Drow that had stalked Medrika through the Underdark and then took her to the surface.

This post will detail the history of Yuettencal and the events leading to the founding of the Aractrashan Kingdom.

600BCE: The expanding civilization in Zeus’s Canvas drove the uncivilized races of Eastern Cimmeria south towards the Aractrash Jungle. Raiding problems rose for the communities located in and around Aractrash.

598BCE: Persephone entered premature labor while walking through the Aractrash Jungle. The son of Hades and Persephone was born on the surface world, out of Hades’s household. Without his father’s roof over his head, the boy was only partially divine. Persephone named the boy Darnard, but she was unable to stay with him or bring him with her. Instead, she gave Darnard to a half-elf sorcerer named Khygantha to raise.

581BCE: Darnard grew into a strong man with fists like metal. He learned a bit of magic from Khygantha, with a particular focus on necromancy due to his father’s heritage. Knowing that the Aractrash Jungle swarmed with evil kobolds, gnolls, ogres, and trolls, Darnard begged Khygantha to help him do something about it. The odd pair set out to protect the people of the jungle from the monsters lurking within the trees.

883BCE: Many of the Naturalists of Bigby’s Forest elected to take over the trading post at Semanarie. They set up a druidic enclave there that preached naturalism and separation from civilized society. Most of the buildings were knocked down and the residents slept outside, protected by the druids’ magic.
The Naturalists who did not settle in Semanarie set out to find a new location for their community. They traveled eastward along the Caspian Sea, collecting followers along the way.

882BCE: After Semanarie became a druidic commune it could no longer serve as the trade post for Bigby’s Forest. An enterprising halfling merchant, Glospiel, set up a trading post, but not on the forest’s edge as one might expect. He laid the foundations for a town on the Caspian coast. Glospiel named his city after the halfling word for sea spray, Makotako.

881BCE: Condrofalspeth, a descendant of Sadroston, gathered people to resettle Jeutontic.

While the races of the defunct Conclave were distracted by the Dragon War, the hobgoblins of Eastern Cimmeria were preparing for war. In 876BCE the leader of the hobgoblins, Kruk-Sho-Kar, invaded, laying waste to all of the small settlements around the Aral Sea.
Toffoun had been trying to stop the Dwarven Civil War. He realized that his efforts were getting him nothing and that his talents could be better used defending his old home in Eastern Cimmeria. Toffoun went with his old friends, Amalgami and Jovy, to stop the hobgoblins. Together they organized the Eastern Cimmerians into an army. Continue reading

Tetalya

Tetalya is a jungle city with a population of about 45,000 along the Aractrash River’s exit from the Aractrashan Jungle. The city is a center for alchemy of all kinds. Magic potions and nonmagical salves are made in great quantities in Tetalya. The surrounding trees, plants, and animals have many different type of spell components that fetchers bring in to the city to be harvested for spell components. The more rare and dangerous specimens such as basilisks are processed in a cordoned area just outside of the city.

Tetalya has a popular battle arena that attracts visitors from other cities. Many husbands have lost their life savings and gone home to the verbal abuse of their wives while others have moved up to positions of insane wealth. The arena is special in that it does not hire new people or use beasts except for its most special combats on holidays. The arena has rotated through a set of twelve different combatants since its formation. The fighters rarely leave their cush arena position thanks to the large cut of the betting, luxurious living space, and the best food that can be given to them. The twelve combatants currently active in the arena are: Hargoth the Axe Rager, Dylan the Sword Ranger, Julian the Drunk Monk, Shara the Half-elf Grappler, Tira the Knife Woman, Organ the Buffing, Sheera the Elven Archer, Tjakres the Githzerai with Magic Arms, Batinhen the Dwarven Paladin, Constance the Dwarven Defender, Kuvintal the Rapier using Acrobat, and Bats the Halfling with a Hooked Hammer and Net. There are contingent spells put on the combatants to prevent them from dying. All of them are best buddies and spend most of their off time together.

The biggest production of alchemy ingredients is done at Grandma Sullust’s Garden in Tetalya. She has a virtual monopoly in the East on magical plants that can be grown domestically. She sells some of her crop in the city itself but most goes to the druid’s guild in Lordodo. They use the plants they can to make salves and the rest are exported mostly to Crafterton to make alchemist’s fire and other offensive chemicals.

The Druidic Healing Guild of Lordodo has an office in Tetalya. This office is the organizational center of Tetalya, filling the basic function a lord’s castle would in a feudal town. The druids do pay fealty to King Staynard of Aractrash and defer to his authority when he is in the city. The druids increased sanitation to levels that some of the public think is unnecessary, while the rest think the clean streets are the best thing since bread. The guild built many public parks and improved the fire prevention service. Overall the druids have drastically improved the standard of living within the city while restricting most of the city’s more dirty medieval traditions.
